Maybe they like to jump the fence? Maybe calling it elopement is giving it an intention it doesn’t have? Fundamentally, maybe they just think its fun to jump the fence. And when we act like it’s a horrible thing, a frightful thing, they see that judgement on their joy.
The element of elopement is simply escaping from the system of fear that bars hopping the fence. Fear should not be denied, but neither should it be given sovereignty.
What is this instinct? It could also be thought of as “exploration of their world.” When we set limitations, recognize what we set limitations on, and give full thought to our reasons. You should know. If you don’t know, doubt.
