A spider crawls onto my leg, at the bar, a random and rare event. My mind floods with judgments, petty and pointless, the bartender will think I blame him and maybe there’s truth in it if the fear exists between us, maybe god sent the spider to mean something but I’m too blind to see it—which implies god has made a child that he’s unaware is an idiot. He sends messages the child cannot understand. Then suddenly, I realize I am assuming the reality of the experience and, strangely, the flood disappears
